Job Description:

The Associate Counsel will provide legal support across various banking operations, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and contributing to the bank's strategic goals.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely and accurate legal advice on a wide range of banking matters, including commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, lending practices, and consumer protection laws.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements, ensuring the bank's interests are protected and legal standards are met.
  • Monitor changes in banking regulations and advise management on implications for the bank’s operations. Assist in compliance audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Identify potential legal risks and work collaboratively with business units to mitigate them, providing practical solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Assist in managing and overseeing any litigation involving the bank, including coordinating with external counsel and ensuring appropriate legal strategies are employed.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for bank employees on legal and compliance issues relevant to their roles.
  • Conduct legal research on various issues affecting the bank, providing well-reasoned opinions and guidance.
  • Work closely with other departments, including compliance, risk management, and business units, to support the bank’s strategic initiatives.

Education and Experience:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and in good standing with a license to practice law in any state.
  • 3-5 years of experience in banking or financial services law, preferably in a corporate or in-house legal environment.
  • Strong understanding of banking regulations, compliance issues, and risk management practices.

  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to facilitate, influence and negotiate at all levels.
