Duties The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado is seeking talented applicants with a passion for public service. The ideal applicant will be dedicated to using their professional and life experiences to work collaboratively with law enforcement to confront and overcome threats to American safety and prosperity. Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in Colorado can expect to work closely with agents at every level of federal, state, and local government to develop investigative strategies, employ sophisticated surveillance techniques, and shape cases in furtherance of a public-safety mission with ambitious goals: eliminating cartels and transnational organized crime, ending the illegal trafficking of drugs, firearms, and human beings, putting a stop to illegal immigration, confronting online threats, cutting off material support for terrorist groups, stopping the production and distribution of child pornography, deterring cyber intrusions, protecting the public fisc from government programs fraud, and shielding elderly victims from mail and wire fraud. Applicants should expect to be considered by all sections of the Criminal Division but may express interest in one or more specific sections in their cover letter. We anticipate filling vacancies in our Violent Crime & Immigration Enforcement and our Transnational Organized Crime & Money Laundering sections from this recruitment, however, if there are exceptional candidates who are well qualified for our Cyber and National Security Section, we may also hire into that section Colorado AUSAs in every section enjoy fast-paced litigation practices featuring frequent appearances in US District Court. For this reason, successful applicants share attributes that include an excellent academic background and stellar litigation experience, sound judgment, a demonstrated devotion to fairness and justice under the law, and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to a variety of audiences. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
