Legal Assistant / Collections (Legal Recovery Department)

Legal Assistant / Collections Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):

  • Assist with sorting and routing of incoming mail.
  • Maintaining customer database and demographics while reviewing account and processing payments.
  • Answer questions/concerns regarding accounts and negotiating repayment plans within company guidelines.
  • Track service of court paperwork. Follow-up with process servers as needed.
  • Prepare consent and default judgments.
  • Calendar hearings for corporate counsel and assign appearance counsel as needed. Assemble notes and documentation for counsel in preparation for hearings.
  • Prepare motions and responses to motions as needed.
  • Prepare, e-file, and track court paperwork for civil cases in Indiana or as designated.
  • Process notice of bankruptcy filings. Prepare related correspondence and/or court paperwork.
  • Skip-trace accounts to obtain address or employment information.
  • Assist other department staff as needed.
  • Seek and implement processes that will increase efficiency of individual tasks or overall workload.
  • Other tasks as assigned to conduct business.

 

Qualifications/Essential Functions:

  • 1+ years’ previous experience as a Paralegal, legal assistant, legal collector, or relative experience.
  • Associate's degree preferred will accept equivalent work experience with high school diploma or GED.
  • Full-time availability Monday-Friday between 8am–5pm (i.e., 40-hour weekly schedule and overtime as needed).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Learn and use industry specific computer programs as expected.
  • Superior organizational skills, highly self-motivated, team player with the ability to work independently, and prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Competent in the use of various office machines including printers, copiers, fax machines, adding machines, and multi-line phones.
  • Effective communication skills that are clear and professional both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to complete work assignments/responsibilities as expected to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
  • Involves a lot of sit down work at the computer while using multiple computer screens/programs.

Hourly Non-Exempt: $20.00
