Job Description

This vacancy is being announced under the Pathway's Internship Program. Only the first 50 applications received will be reviewed. JOB DESCRIPTION
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) of the Export-Import Bank is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic law students to serve as summer interns. The OGC legal internship offers a unique, hands-on opportunity for students to learn the practice of law in a federal government corporation setting. Selected interns undertake legal research, writing and other assignments in all areas of law OGC handles, at the direction of a supervising attorney. Interns are also invited to participate in OGC meetings with senior management executives, outside counsel, and other attorneys. Interns may also receive assignments from other OGC divisions based on their expressed areas of interest and the needs of those divisions. Students must be currently enrolled in law school at least half-time. Interns must be U.S. citizens.

DESIRED
Rising 3Ls and LLM students are preferred, but exceptional rising 2Ls may also be considered. Coursework and/or employment experience in corporations, international law, employment law, administrative law, ethics, and/or commercial transactions is highly desirable.

Eligibility Requirements:


To apply for a Pathways Internship position, candidates must be:

  • A U.S. Citizen
  • Currently enrolled, on at least a half-time basis, in an accredited college/university (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
  • In good academic standing, maintaining a G.P.A of 2.5 or higher
  • If you are not a student enrolled in the current semester, you must submit proof of enrollment in the upcoming semester (i.e., letter from the registrar's office or acceptance letter from an accredited educational institution).
  • If you are a student who is enrolled in the current semester and your transcript does not show current enrollment or if you have completed the semester and your transcript does not show enrollment for the upcoming semester, you must submit proof of continued enrollment (i.e., letter from the registrar's office or course enrollment print out, etc.).
  • Your transcript or registrar's letter must document the educational requirements for this position.
  • If you are graduating at the end of the semester, you are not eligible for the position.
Work Schedule Requirements:
  • You must be able to work at least 24 hours per week during the academic year and full-time (40 hours per week) during the summer.
If selected, you:
  • must sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement;
  • must maintain status as a current student;
  • must maintain good academic standing, at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale.
  • must furnish course registration information at the start of each school term (if extended); and
  • must provide verification of academic status (transcript) at the end of each academic term (if extended).

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the education requirements for each grade which you are requesting consideration for:

  • GS-07: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree.
  • GS-09: Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.
****NOTE: One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours*****

Students in an accredited post-secondary school must provide a copy of their transcripts which shows the list of courses with credit hours, major(s), and grade point average or class ranking. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable to be considered, but official transcripts are required prior to appointment.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

Other Information An extension may be possible without further competition when the student remains eligible for the program. The appointment may also end early due to lack of work or funds. Upon successful completion of the Pathways Internship, candidates MAY BE converted to term or career appointment, without further competition.
