MMLA is seeking a dedicated individual to be part of our dynamic team. If you’re ready to contribute your skills and compassion to meaningful work, we invite you to explore this exciting opportunity.

What’s in it for you?

  • We believe in work-life harmony. This role offers the flexibility to blend remote work with in-office collaboration.
  • On Fridays, the office closes at noon and employees enjoy a half-day of paid flex time.
  • MMLA provides on-the-job training and mentorship, with opportunities for growth within the organization.
  • Based on the nature of our high-volume litigation practice, Housing Staff Attorneys gain litigation and negotiation skills, and even trial experience, well before many law firm associates.

Why MMLA?

  • We’re not just ticking boxes. We’re genuinely committed to diversity. Bring your unique identity, experiences, and perspectives—we want them all!
  • Our mission? Equal justice for all. In your cover letter, tell us how your background can amplify this cause. Let’s change our lives together.
  • Discrimination and harassment have no place here. We’re building a respectful, supportive workplace where everyone thrives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Apply the principles of MMLA's Racial Justice Values Statement in all interactions.
  • Focus on civil litigation in housing law to defend evictions, secure safe and healthy housing, and prevent housing discrimination in court and administrative settings.
  • Professionally maintain an active litigation caseload, including hearings and trials.
  • Additional duties may include complex litigation, policy advocacy, community education, and staffing a community clinic site.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be licensed to practice in the State of Minnesota.
  • Demonstrate an interest in and commitment to the needs of low income and vulnerable clients.
  • Show a commitment to working as a team member to serve client needs.
  • Must demonstrate a desire to appear in court to litigate client rights.
  • Excellent analytical and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Dedication to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Diverse economic, social, and cultural experiences preferred.
  • Proficiency in a second language preferred, especially Arabic, Hmong, Oromo, Somali, or Spanish.
  • Legal training, knowledge of community resources, and experience with case management software.

Compensation Information:

  • $80,000 to $90,182, depending on experience, plus benefits. Benefits include family medical and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, 403(b) with employer match, FSA, employee assistance programs, and generous paid time off.

Application Submission:

  • Interested candidates should submit their resume, references, and a cover letter at https://mylegalaid.org/employement.

If you require a reasonable accommodation for completing this application, interviewing, or otherwise participating in our employee selection process, please contact Megan Cook at mcook@mylegalaid.org.
