As a Litigation and Commercial Paralegal with Brunswick Corporation you will play a pivotal role in supporting our attorneys across a broad spectrum of legal matters. In this multifaceted position, you’ll be at the heart of litigation management, commercial transactions, and strategic claims oversight—contributing directly to the success of our legal operations.

From managing complex litigation portfolios and responding to subpoenas, to drafting commercial agreements and supporting corporate transactions, this role offers a unique blend of responsibilities that will challenge and grow your legal expertise. You’ll collaborate with attorneys, insurers, policyholders, and external counsel, ensuring seamless coordination and execution of legal strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with litigation management, including initial case assessment, creating and maintaining case files, answering written discovery, and maintaining hearing schedules, and other critical deadlines.

  • Issue and monitor legal hold orders, respond to subpoenas, and manage enterprise-wide service of process. 

  • Assist attorneys with managing the asbestos portfolio and liaising with insurers.

  • Develop the strategy for litigation claims management and oversight of all pre-litigation and litigation matters within the Captive Program, including managing and overseeing matters from intake to closure across open hull, protection & indemnity, and general marine liability insurance lines.

  • Correspond with policyholders, claimants, experts and attorneys on various pre-litigation and litigation matters. 

  • Acknowledge, negotiate, set and monitor reserves, including preparation of reserve and accrual reports.   

  • Assist attorneys with reporting using matter management software.

  • Draft and review a wide variety of commercial documents, reports and filings, including IT agreements, procurement/sourcing/supply agreements.

  • Assist attorneys with the preparation, review and execution of various transaction documents in connection with the Company’s acquisitions, divestitures, real estate, financing and treasury matters.

  • Assist attorneys with the due diligence process from time to time (e.g., preparation of due diligence checklists, gathering, reviewing and summarizing documents, etc.).

  • File and/or coordinate the filing of UCC financing statements, order and review documents in connection with UCC searches.

  • Perform legal research tasks on various commercial matters and assist with strategic projects as necessary.

  • Experience with contract management, document repositories, and general legal operations is a plus.

  • Utilize good written and verbal communication skills and exercise sound judgment and independent decision-making.


Position Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant paralegal experience.

  • Must be resourceful and take responsibility to complete assignments with minimal supervision.

  • Paralegal degree or certification is required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, and demonstrated ability to learn IT applications and systems.

  • Careful attention to detail, curiosity, consistent follow through, and good judgment.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload effectively and independently while accountable for work product.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid analytical and organizational skills.

  • Cooperativeness, flexibility, ability to collaborate and work across functions in a team environment.

  • Candidate must be able to use time efficiently to meet multiple deadlines.

  • Familiarity with the SimpleLegal matter management tool is a plus, but not required.

  • Previous experience working in a corporate law department is preferred.

The anticipated pay range for this position is $85,800 - $138,200 annually. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job- related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.

At Brunswick, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the salary range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate’s qualifications and the business context.
