Senior Leasing Counsel

The position requires a business minded professional attorney with experience drafting and negotiating Leases and related real estate contracts, preferably within a commercial retail environment. The successful candidate will possess the following minimum capabilities:

  • Superior organizational and time management skills.
  • Superior communication skills. Effective communication upstream as well as with peers is a must.
  • Be capable of handling a large workload within specific timelines and differing priorities.
  • Possess the ability to effectively negotiate matters in a manner which protects the Company’s best interests, but which also serves to bring the matter to completion as quickly as possible.
  • The ability to adhere to all corporate policies and procedures.

Principal Responsibilities of the Senior Leasing Counsel:

  • Researching previously executed documents to note trends and past deviations from corporate best practices.
  • Drafting and negotiating commercial retail leases and related documents.
  • Provide thoughtful, business minded counsel to our leasing and other business staff with regard to both legal and business issues, including  the impact of deviations from standard language and best practices.
  • Resolve issues/stalemates quickly.
  • Assist the Team Leader and/or Sr. VP with staff development, including shared management of an Administrative assistant.
  • Coordinating the preparation of routine reporting and communication to the team Leader and the Sr VP.
  • Effectively interact and communicate with other departments within the Company as required in order to efficiently complete lease negotiations and related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active License to practice law within at least one (1) state in the U.S., in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience, either in-house or within a firm, negotiating/drafting commercial real estate leases and related matters/documents preferably within a Retail Shopping Center environment.
  • Staff management/development experience is preferred.
  • Expertise in all aspects of commercial real estate law.
