Job Description

COMPANY BACKGROUND
The Houston Dynamo Football Club (HDFC) is a multi-faceted organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting soccer participation and growth in Houston, TX and beyond. HDFC’s brands include men’s and women’s professional clubs – the Houston Dynamo (MLS), Houston Dynamo 2 (MLS NEXT Pro), and Houston Dash (NWSL), a development academy, Dynamo and Dash Charities, Shell Energy Stadium and Houston Sports Park.
The organization has a rich history, including two MLS Cup championships (2006, 2007) and in-season tournament championships for both the Dynamo (2018, 2023) and Dash (2020), and is focused on securing more championships, inspiring and uniting the city of Houston through the sport of soccer and community outreach, and creating the most inclusive sporting experience and diverse fan base in the city and state.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
We are seeking a proactive and pragmatic Legal Assistant to join our in-house legal team. This individual will report directly to the Associate General Counsel and will assist the Legal Department by providing administrative, clerical and research support services, including document preparation and review, record keeping and other legal operation tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with day-to-day legal and compliance matters, including those relating to sales, marketing, and promotions; broadcasting; facility operations; soccer operations; public relations; litigation; insurance and workers’ compensation; intellectual property; and employment
  • Draft and review basic legal documents such as waivers, releases, sweepstakes rules, nondisclosure agreements and other documents with oversight from the Associate General Counsel
  • Assist with the development of various operational processes related to contract management, cross-functional legal requests, vendor management, and legal billing and invoicing
  • Aid in the revamping of legal operations, including the implementation of a legal request system, contract management system and other measures to assess, manage, enhance, develop and streamline processes
  • Manage document retention policy and maintain a comprehensive record of internal documents, ensuring contracts are organized, accessible, and properly stored
  • Facilitate internal departmental engagement and legal education refreshers
  • Draft legal correspondence, coordinate document execution, and perform other clerical or organizational tasks as assigned
  • Support risk management efforts and the management of outside counsel and consultants
  • Correspond with league personnel to ensure compliance
  • Assist in coordinating immigration and visa processes
  • Conduct routine legal research and writing
  • Assist with special project administration and perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree required with exceptional academic credentials.
  • 3+ years of experience as an administrative assistant supporting a legal or contracts department.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel), DocuSign, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and document management systems.
  • Strong teamwork and relationship management skills with the ability to work effectively as a liaison between the Legal Department and all internal clients and external stakeholders.
  • Superior time management, organizational, problem-solving and research skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively manage communications and projects with a remote workforce.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments and deadlines with accuracy and a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work as a team with other departments in a high- performing and face-paced environment.
  • Highest commitment to ethical and professional standards, including personal integrity and sound judgment.
  • Ability to use discretion, sensitivity and tact in handling confidential matters.
  • Astute, self-motivated individual with the ability to leverage resources and quickly adapt to organizational change.
  • Demonstrated willingness to continuously acquire new competencies and accept new challenges.
  • Proven ability to create, manage, and improve workflow processes.
  • Knowledge of standard contract clauses, drafting, and legal routing processes.
  • Knowledge of basic legal terminology and principles.
  • Maintains Organizational Core Competencies.
  • Experience in identifying and prioritizing assignments based on content, urgency, and organizational sensitivity.
  • Paralegal certification (preferred but not required)
  • Texas notary (preferred but not required)
