American Airlines, Inc. is seeking a Paralegal, Ethics Compliance to join the Legal team. This role, which reports to a Senior Manager, will actively support American’s efforts to make culture a competitive advantage by supporting the work of the Business Ethics and Compliance Office. You’ll work alongside attorneys who drive our efforts to deter, detect, and prevent misconduct, and you’ll be a key player in promoting the expectation that every team member acts with integrity, honesty, and an absolute dedication to making responsible and ethical decisions.
- Administer the EthicsPoint helpline, including case triage, assignment, quality control, and follow-up
- Respond to inquiries from business leaders, investigators, and attorneys
- Conduct internal background reviews and ensure compliance with training requirements
- Coordinate training for attorneys in the Ethics Office and HR professionals, support other training and communications efforts, and maintain complete and accurate records
- Identify, draft, and circulate updates and improvements to Ethics Office policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Perform basic analytics to track key metrics for handling and disposition of EthicsPoint helpline cases
- Assist in preparing periodic reports for the Audit Committee, Internal Audit, SOX Compliance, Safety Management System, and other internal groups as well as for quarterly compliance meetings
- Maintain and update written materials, presentations, and spreadsheets to support Ethics Office attorneys
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience and training
- At least three years of work experience in an in-house legal department or private law firm; prior ethics and compliance experience a plus
Preferred Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience
- Degree or certification in paralegal studies

- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational, investigative, and analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; bilingual or multilingual a plus
- Ability to work with team members at all levels of the organization, including senior leadership
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Ability to review, understand, and follow policies and procedures with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to review and analyze data, research questions, and present clear and actionable insights
- Ability to handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and quickly identify when issues need to be escalated
- Good judgment, a sense of urgency, and demonstrated commitment to high standards of ethics, regulatory compliance, customer service, and integrity
- Strong PC skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Good team player with a flexible schedule; some after-hours and weekend work may be required
