Our main office is in Westlake Village comprised of 16 attorneys and over 60 employees, which the position will be based in. Our firm represents clients in labor negotiations, internal affairs investigations, disciplinary appeals, administrative litigation, officer-involved shootings, criminal defense, personal injury litigation, employment litigation, and workers’ compensation.
The firm is seeking a Lead Legal Assistant/Paralegal to add to the team. The candidate will under general direction, will perform a full range of complex and responsible secretarial and legal work utilizing terminology, procedures, and documents. Coordinate preparations of legal documents and correspondence filing pleading with the Workers Compensation Appeals Board.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Familiarity with law, legal procedures and protocols, and Worker’s Compensation court system.
- Receive, transcribe, and track legal dictation of status reports, conference summaries, settlement disbursements reports, including sub out and liens.
- Proofread and correct prepared materials for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, format, syntax, and content.
- Compose routine letters and memoranda using knowledge of work area instructions and guidelines.
- Maintain files, logs, and other information in connection with the work under the control of assigned attorney.
- Prepare Pre-Trial Conference Statements, settlement documents and trial exhibits in advance of hearings and depositions as applicable.
- Operate standard office equipment such as copy machines and scanners.
- Receive and place telephone calls and emails, manage volume.
- Jet filing, DOR’s pleadings or change of address.
- Review daily mail, delegate tasks with team.
- Assists with establishing and accomplishing department goals: overseeing management of any of teams and their tasks.
- Ability to train and supervise other team members in the practices and skills required to be effective at their position.
- Follow up and track tasks & settlement fess.
- Maintain effective relations to address the problems of industrially injured persons.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Working in a collaborative team environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and SharePoint or Merus Case.
- Skilled typing ability (minimum 75WPM) as well as strong writing, proofreading, spelling, and grammar skills.
