Position Summary
AK Law Firm, a respected Texas personal injury firm, is seeking a highly organized and dependable Legal Assistant to provide comprehensive support to the firm’s legal team. This position will support two personal injury attorneys and work closely with senior paralegals to ensure effective case management, binder creation, and trial preparation.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-driven environment. This role requires professionalism, discretion, and strong communication skills to manage confidential client information and assist in the successful resolution of cases.
Key Responsibilities
Case & File Management
- Maintain and organize both electronic and physical case files according to firm procedures.
- Assist attorneys and paralegals in preparing discovery materials, exhibits, and case binders.
- Track case deadlines, hearings, and court filings to ensure timely completion.
- Open, close, and archive case files following firm and compliance protocols.
Attorney & Paralegal Support
- Provide administrative and legal support to assigned attorneys and senior paralegals.
- Draft and proofread correspondence, pleadings, discovery responses, and other documents for attorney review.
- Coordinate document signing, scanning, and distribution to clients, courts, and opposing counsel.
- Maintain and update case management systems with notes, tasks, and key deadlines.
Trial Preparation & Binder Creation
- Prepare and maintain detailed trial, mediation, and arbitration binders, including exhibits and witness materials.
- Coordinate logistics for trial preparation, including exhibit organization, vendor coordination, and document management.
- Provide on-site trial support when needed, ensuring attorneys have accurate and organized materials.
Client and Court Interaction
- Serve as a professional and courteous point of contact for clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel.
- Schedule and confirm depositions, mediations, and other proceedings.
- Draft and send client communications under attorney supervision.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Manage attorney calendars, appointments, and meeting logistics.
- Assist with expense reporting, travel coordination, and correspondence.
- Provide general office support such as copying, scanning, and document organization.
- Assist with firm projects, audits, and administrative initiatives as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a law firm environment, with a strong preference for personal injury or civil litigation experience.
- Thorough knowledge of legal procedures, discovery rules, and court filing processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and legal case management systems (e.g., Needles, Filevine, or equivalent).
- Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional, client-focused demeanor.
- Ability to multitask effectively, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desirable.
- Experience creating trial notebooks and organizing exhibits for mediation or court.
- Familiarity with Texas court systems and e-filing platforms (State and Federal).
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally (case files or trial materials).
- Local travel may be required for court filings, trials, or case-related errands.
