Position Summary:
Responsible for providing a wide range of services focusing primarily on employment law matters by being highly collaborative and entrepreneurial, with strong initiative to proactively advance important legal initiatives. This role provides advice, counsel and support on a broad range of employment issues such as recruiting, hiring, compensation, benefits, leaves of absence, performance management, and investigations for our team members throughout the U.S. but with significant focus on California. The role positively reflects the Legal Department in the individual's interactions with internal clients at all levels of the organization as well as in interactions with external customers, clients, and vendors. Ensures the performance of all duties in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, all U.S. state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the company operates.
Responsibilities:
- Provides guidance to the HR organization. Evaluates and provides analysis and counsel on legal issues relative to compliance with various employment-related laws such Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FEHA, , CFRA, PDLA, FLSA, PAGA, the California Labor Code, and other state-specific employment laws.
- Manages and reports on employment and labor regulatory compliance risks covering all aspects of the company; assists SVP on a broad range of legal topics.
- Provides proactive guidance to senior management in identifying compliance risks and ensures adequate policies and procedures exist regarding compliance laws.
- Drafts and reviews compensation and other employment agreements, investigates workplace complaints, responds to administrative charges, and manages assigned employment litigation from the pre-litigation stage through resolution.
- Manages outside counsel on matters and ensures compliance with setting budgets.
- Manages enforcement of restrictive covenant agreements.
- Responsible for researching legal issues and tracking industry legal trends in the employment and labor law areas.
- Creates and maintains matters in litigation management system and responds to requests from outside counsel.
- Drafts advisory compliance memoranda, bulletins, training materials, policies and procedures covering new/existing laws and regulations affecting the company and maintains accessible records of such materials.
- Tracks changes in federal/state laws and regulations, establishes applicable policies/procedures and implements changes to procedures in partnership with corporate functional leaders.
- Oversees the review and approval of policies, procedures, practices, training materials, marketing materials, consumer disclosures, and other communications for compliance with legal requirements.
- Interfaces and provides counsel and guidance including direct communication and complex written analysis and advice for Executive and Senior Management.
- Conducts complex legal research and investigation of claims and defenses; develops oral and written advice and presents recommendations to management.

Requirements:
- Juris Doctorate Law Degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association or equivalent international degree required.
- Minimum of ten (10) + years’ related experience in-house or in a law firm, including providing advice and counsel and litigating employment matters with a focus on California law.
- Licensed to practice law in the state of California.
- Public company experience a plus.

Base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay for this roles is between $186,000 and $256,500. Your base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors, including your job-related knowledge/skills, qualifications, experience, and market location.
