Company Description

The Union County State's Attorney and staff represent the people of the state of Illinois in all criminal prosecutions, juvenile adjudications, and ordinance enforcement for Union County Illinois and serve as chief legal counsel for Union County for all other matters regarding matters of law and policy for Union County.

 

Job Description
  • Prepare, copy, transmit and file documents as needed
  • Answer calls in a timely manner
  • Draft preliminary versions of legal documents as needed
  • Legal Research and writing including pleadings, memoranda, and case briefs
  • Data entry in computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite
  • File building in digital CMS system PBK by Karpel 
  • Attend court with attorneys to assist with note taking and coordination of court matters
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, polices, work procedures and instructions

 

Qualifications
  • Degree or certificate in paralegal, legal/criminal justice or other related qualifying field preferred.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all office matters, cases and investigations and client information and provide written acknowledgement of confidentiality requirements.
  • Must be consistent, trustworthy, reliable and work well with others inside and outside of the County (e.g. State agencies).
  • Self-starter and ability to promptly complete tasks upon receipt of assignments.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced setting.
  • Competent in the functions and operation of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work remotely on occasion if necessary.
  • Must provide identifying information for a pre-interview criminal background check.
  • Must obtain a Notary Public Bond and License if hired.
  • Applicants with prior experience working in a law firm or criminal justice related field will be given priority in hiring considerations.
Additional Information

Full time position, 35 hours per week, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday - Friday. (1 hour unpaid lunch)

$17.06 an hour with annual increases and longevity increases based on collective bargaining agreement.  With paralegal degree hourly rate will begin at $19.54 an hour based on collecitve bargaining agreement. 

90 day probation

Eligible to participate in available medical and dental insurance plan beginning the first day of the month following hire date.

70 hours vacation after completion of 1 year employment

7 hours sick time per month
