Job Description

HJH Investments is seeking In-House Counsel in the Dallas/FortWorth, TX area as a full-time addition to our legal team.   As our in-house counsel, you will advise legal matters and work on acquisitions, dispositions and leases while ensuring legal compliance and protecting the company’s and investors’ interests. 

 

Transaction Support:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate real estate contracts, purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, and other legal documents.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external parties to ensure smooth execution of real estate transactions.

Portfolio Management:

  • Support the management of the company’s existing real estate assets, including lease compliance and renewals.
  • Provide legal advice on property management issues, including tenant disputes and operational concerns.

Legal Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Conduct due diligence on acquisitions, including title reviews, zoning analysis, and environmental assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing real estate transactions and property use.
  • Assist in navigating regulatory approvals and permits.

Dispute Resolution:

  • Assist in managing disputes involving properties, including tenant issues, boundary disputes, or regulatory challenges.
  • Coordinate with external counsel as needed for litigation or arbitration.

Collaboration and Advisory:

  • Advise the company’s leadership and business units on real estate-related legal matters.
  • Work closely with internal departments such as Transactions, Accounting and Asset Management.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Bar in any state and the ability to be admitted to the Kansas Bar without examination.
  • 2-4 years of legal experience in commercial real estate
  • Excellent analytical, drafting and negotiation skills
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • An excellent collaborator and communicator, both written and verbal
  • Self-disciplined and exercises good judgment
  • Proactive in problem-solving, taking on new projects and designing better processes

 

This position is remote but we are needing a candidate located and licensed to practice in the Dallas, TX area.  Occasional travel required.  Candidates located outside of the Dallas/Fortworth Metroplex will not be considered.
