JOB SUMMARY
WCF Insurance is growing and has an immediate opening for someone who can demonstrate the WCF values to join their team as a California Attorney. This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Director for California Legal Team (Director, California Attorney). The person in this position manages legal services for workers' compensation claims in California, including advising on compliance with state insurance statutes and regulations. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active membership in the California State Bar Association.
- At least five years of experience in the field of workers' compensation claims administration and litigation.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, analytical, management, and interpersonal skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Monitor the laws and regulations that may affect WCF's California workers' compensation claims administration policies and practices.
- Advise claims staff and management regarding changes in laws and regulations.
- Conduct legal analysis of claims related issues.
- Directly handle the defense and litigation of certain workers' compensation cases. (e.g., reporting to claims adjuster, reviewing mail, drafting pleadings, making appearances, taking depositions.)
ACCOUNTABILITY & REQUIREMENTS
- Formulate and articulate resolutions to complex legal problems, regarding workers' compensation litigation and settlements.
- Ability to work independently with limited or minimal supervision.
- Educate claims and legal-department staff, management, other departments, and customers.
- Establish credibility within WCF and in the insurance community.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based in an office environment with adequate temperature and lighting control. There are no known hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, or other environmental factors. There are potentially high-stress situations that require meeting deadlines. The employee must meet the job attendance requirements for this position.
WCF Insurance offers an extensive compensation package. Benefits include Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance, company paid life insurance, 401K with a generous 6% employer match and additional benefits such as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and time off to volunteer in the local community. All employees earn 4 weeks of vacation in their first year. The minimum salary for this position starts at $130,320. There is the ability to increase stating pay depending on experience and education.
Internal candidates should have 6 months in their current position, acceptable job performance, and must notify their current supervisor that they have applied for the position.
