Job Description

Chewy is looking for a Corporate Counsel, Employment Law to join the Legal Team in Bellevue, WA! This position is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join a fast-paced, dynamic Legal Department supporting Chewy’s Fulfillment Center and Corporate teams with respect to employment and labor law. 

The successful candidate will be both a strategic advisor and a hands-on problem solver, providing practical, business-oriented day-to-day employment law advice and counseling to HR professionals and business managers regarding Fulfillment Center and Corporate employees. This position requires a proactive approach and close collaboration with human resources and other business stakeholders, as well as other attorneys in the Legal Department.  

What You'll Do:  

  •  Partner with HR professionals and other business stakeholders to act as a trusted legal adviser, providing advice and counseling on multi-jurisdictional employment laws, including, but not limited to, wage/hour compliance; recruiting and hiring compliance; leaves of absence and accommodations; drug testing and background screenings; discrimination; and retaliation. 
  • Advise HR professionals on emerging legislative and regulatory changes affecting employment and labor obligations in multi-jurisdictional operations. 
  • Review and revise internal policies and procedures to ensure multi-jurisdictional regulatory compliance. 
  • Develop and deliver proactive training to business leaders on a wide variety of employment law matters. 
  • Provide legal representation and/or supervise outside counsel regarding employment litigation, government administrative agency charges, audits, and investigations (e.g., EEOC, DOL, OSHA, and state/local agencies) as well as attorney demand letters and claims involving employment-related concerns. 
  •  Draft and negotiate employment-related documents including separation agreements and settlement agreements. 
  • Partner with and advise HR professionals regarding internal investigations, as well as compensation, ERISA, and immigration matters. 

What You'll Need:  

  • JD from an accredited school with strong academic credentials. 
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience practicing employment law, in-house and/or with a national or regional law firm. 
  • Significant experience in identifying employment law risks and formulating strategies regarding the same, as well as in providing practical, timely, and solution-oriented advice and counseling to business clients at various levels of the organization. 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally and develop practical solutions that mitigate legal risks and align with business objectives. 
  • Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and assume significant responsibility in keeping with the level of experience in employment law. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills. This position requires fast-paced multitasking and the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and manage multiple issues involving business partners in various locations. 
  •  Active license to practice law in at least one state and the ability to become licensed as in-house counsel in Florida. 
  • Candidate should possess empathy, excellent professional judgment, and a good sense of humor. 
  • The position may require occasional travel.
