GEICO is seeking an accomplished Director of Litigation Oversight and Compliance to lead litigation oversight for GEICO Staff Counsel, applying deep litigation knowledge and legal judgment to strengthen governance, risk management, and consistent case strategy across teams. This role reports to the Senior Director of Litigation and Operations Strategy in partnership with Staff Counsel leadership and key stakeholders to enhance policy controls, improve case management technology, support audit readiness, and deliver clear reporting on risk, metrics, and outcomes. A Juris Doctor is required, and deep experience in litigation and litigation oversight is essential to success in this role.
In this role, a proven litigation leader will strengthen consistency, quality, and compliance across GEICO’s multi-jurisdictional Staff Counsel organization. The ideal candidate brings deep litigation knowledge, strong legal judgment, and experience leading oversight initiatives that support GEICO’s legal and business objectives.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy
- Lead litigation oversight and related compliance initiatives to strengthen governance, consistency, and performance across Staff Counsel.
- Supervise implementation of litigation strategies aligned with company goals to deliver consistent, high-quality, and cost-effective legal outcomes.
- Provide executive-level reporting, risk escalation, and strategic recommendations to leadership.
- Lead and develop the Senior Manager, Litigation Oversight and Compliance.
Audit, Compliance and Policy
- Oversee Staff Counsel’s compliance posture, audit readiness, remediation strategy, and ongoing adherence to litigation standards.
- Establish, administer, and enforce governance standards that support litigation oversight and operational compliance.
- Oversee policy version control and SharePoint governance to support accurate, current, and accessible litigation guidance.
- Ensure departmental compliance through oversight of Staff Counsel practices and working knowledge of applicable jurisdictional laws, regulations, and bar requirements.
Performance and Metrics
- Oversee annual and mid-year performance calibrations to support consistency, accountability, and talent development.
- Provide enterprise visibility into jurisdictional litigation practices, key performance indicators, metrics, and client survey results.
Technology and Case Management
- Oversee technology improvement plans for litigation operations, including case-handling processes, workflows, technology, and vendor management.
- Lead TeamConnect governance and operational enhancements.
- Oversee case assignment systems, litigation budgeting, and efficiency tracking to support disciplined resource management.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with Claims, internal partners, and outside counsel to align litigation oversight priorities and execution.
- Partner with Legal Operations and Legal Tech to advance automation, scalability, and case management effectiveness.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school required.
- Active law license required in at least one state, with all necessary continuing legal education (CLE) maintained.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience required, including substantial experience in litigation and litigation oversight. Experience in legal operations, strategy, program management, and/or consulting is important, but deep litigation knowledge, legal judgment, and litigation oversight experience are essential to the role.
- Demonstrated people-management and senior-level leadership experience, including management of legal professionals and/or legal teams.
Skills and Competencies
- Deep knowledge of litigation practice, case lifecycle management, and litigation oversight, with the legal judgment to assess risk, guide strategy, and drive consistent execution across teams.
- Data-driven operator with experience defining KPIs, building reporting, and using metrics to drive decisions and performance calibrations.
- Compliance and governance leader with the ability to strengthen audit readiness, remediation execution, and policy/controls management (including version control and knowledge management).
- Legal operations and technology acumen with experience improving case management workflows, partnering with Legal Tech, and driving system governance (e.g., TeamConnect).
- Program and change management capability to scope initiatives, manage stakeholders, and deliver measurable operational improvements in a matrixed environment.
- Executive communication and influence with the judgment to escalate risk appropriately, align leaders, and drive accountability with integrity.

- Remote role, with in-office presence and travel as needed.
- Preferred location: Maryland (Bethesda office).

Annual Salary
$179,375.00 - $280,850.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
