- Summary
The Law Graduate is responsible for assisting with legal research and pre-trial hearings.
- Essential Duties
- Prepare cases for disposition at the preliminary hearing level.
- Research various areas of the law and assist staff in drafting opinions and orders for appeals and various pre-trial and post-trial motions.
- Provide non-binding procedural and legal advice to attorneys in area of expertise.
- Assist staff during settlement conferences, administrative conferences, and pre-trial conferences.
- Review court files to determine legal issues presented by motions, petitions, objections, etc.
- Conduct preliminary hearings and present waivers and agreements to Justices and attorneys.
- Contact attorneys to coordinate meeting times and matters to be addressed.
- Track legal filings to ensure litigants have complied with our orders.
- Assist in the preparation of local rules or other administrative tasks, as necessary.
- Discuss case management issues and provide reports and spreadsheets regarding case status.
- Conduct legal research for trial attorneys.
- Participate in pre-trial or summary matters as a PA certified legal intern.
- Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.
- Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, or Juris Doctorate candidate.
- Ability to obtain a license to practice law in Pennsylvania within one year.
- Strong legal research skills.
- Excellent writing and reading skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Accurate and detail oriented.
- Ability to establish priorities and multi-task.
- Ability to research applicable case law and cite cases.
- Must attend 12 hours of CLE annually.
- Working knowledge of Pennsylvania Rules of Civil, Criminal and Appellate Procedures.
- Working knowledge of Rules of Professional Conduct for Attorneys.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- Excellent academic credentials.
- Participation in Moot Court programs.
- Strong knowledge of Chester County Rules of Civil Procedures.
- Working knowledge of legal processes involved in civil and criminal dockets.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Must be able to maintain confidential information and handle confidential matters.
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels of county management.
- Demonstrates integrity and honesty.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. Occasionally, the employee will need to stand, walk, and drive an automobile. On rare occasions, the employee will need to reach above shoulders or work with arms above shoulder height; bend at the waist or work while bent at the waist; kneel, stoop, crouch, or squat; and climb stairs. There are no special vision requirements listed for this position.
