Position Summary:

Currently seeking an attorney to engage in meaningful work with nonprofit organizations, reporting to the Supervising Attorney. The role includes building relationships with a plethora of clients and completing a wide variety of general legal work for nonprofit organizations. Ideal candidates will enjoy a fast-paced, positive environment with opportunities for professional growth. 


In any given day, the topics/projects include a wide array of subject matters, including, but not limited to: board governance disputes, demand letters relating to breach of contract, making and cooperating with insurance claims, assisting with fraud investigations, defending administrative actions, applying for tax-exempt status, amending corporate documents, reinstating corporate enterprise or tax-exemption, trademark and copyright applications, advising about board meetings, membership disputes, theological/ecclesiastical disputes, operating in the zone of insolvency, receivership/bankruptcy and related, among many other topics.


Attorneys and para-professionals work alongside in a cooperative manner to deliver final deliverables to clients. Slackers need not apply! ;) 


Responsibilities:

  • Providing strategic legal advice and support to nonprofit organizations
  • Meeting with potential clients over Zoom to discuss their needs and our services
  • Reviewing and drafting documents for nonprofit organizations including contracts, policies, and more
  • Managing relationships with a high volume of clients simultaneously
  • Identifying and driving development of legal strategies for nonprofits
  • Managing client expectations to balance requirements and competing priorities
  • Providing useful legal advice and alternative solutions
  • Functioning as a fractional associate general counsel to certain larger clients
  • Organizing workload to ensure project deadlines are met
  • Meeting with potential clients over Zoom to discuss client needs and our services in an insightful and friendly manner
  • Ensuring efficient and friendly communication with colleagues and team members
  • Drafting pre-litigation and litigation documents including but not limited to cease and deist or demand letters
  • Develops expert-level knowledge in several key areas of the law
  • Completing other responsibilities and projects as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • License to practice law in Indiana or another jurisdiction
  • 0-3 years of legal experience
  • Able to thrive in fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and clients across various disciplines and cultures
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Able to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously
  • Strong drafting and communication skills
  • Interest in tax-exempt, nonprofit organizations
  • Willingness and ability to handle a wide range of legal issues for various constituencies, with a strong focus on customer service
  • Strategic and innovative thinker who can bring value to his or her clients and find creative solutions to complex legal problems
  • Exemplary personal and professional integrity and business ethics, as well as respect for others

 

Education/Licensure

  • Juris doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in any state


Location

Four days per week in the office with a hybrid option of one day per week remote

Robert Miller, Supervising Attorney


Compensation and Benefits

Compensation commensurate with experience. Compensation ranging $90,000-$120,000 (dependent upon experience and performance based bonuses).
