SUMMARY

Provides support to attorneys. Under the direction of an attorney, resolves routine legal issues. Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes to prepare legal documents, such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, contracts, etc.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Loads, organizes, and processes incoming ESI, documents, and other discovery produced in Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) investigations and cases using automated software systems.
  • Assists in tracking, organizing, and managing documents in document review platforms such as Everlaw, Relativity and Eclipse. Performs a wide variety of tasks such as assisting and training Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) and agents in gaining access to and using those platforms, creating complex searches and queries, creating tags, and assisting in production of documents from those databases; review and analyze documents in document review platforms, and then create written summaries or chronologies of those documents; and assist AUSAs with trial preparation and running trial presentation software.
  • Works with AUSAs, investigators, federal agents, and support staff to determine the most effective strategy to meet litigation needs.
  • Reviews and analyzes documents produced in discovery or in response to subpoenas and Civil Investigative Demands, including but not limited to creating queries, tagging documents, and writing up analyses, summaries, and chronologies of reviewed documents.
  • Reviews investigative reports, transcript testimonies, interview reports, ESI, and documents for a variety of civil cases to become familiar with the issues and identify pertinent material.
  • Assists and/or trains AUSAs, USAO support staff, investigators, and agents in organizing voluminous case information for efficient retrieval through automated means such as scanning, indexing, and controlling of documents into a database.  Ensures that documents are organized for efficient automated storage and retrieval by preparing appropriate indices, defining data file search criteria, and indexing/coding fields.  Monitors the progress of computer data entry effort.  Logs, organizes, and tracks all discovery and non-discovery materials using various software review programs (i.e., Everlaw, Eclipse, Relativity, Excel, Word).
  • Identifies software packages such as: databases, spreadsheets and word processing applications based on the effectiveness of (1) presenting complex and voluminous evidence, (2) producing graphic demonstrative evidence, and (3) meeting individual user needs.
  • Uses software programs to assist AUSAs in presentations (i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, CaseMap, Trial Director).  
  • Prepares witness books, exhibit lists, witness lists, and exhibits for submission to court to be utilized at trial and hearings, and synchronization of exhibits with Trial Director for exhibition in the courtroom.   When necessary, coordinates with vendors to ensure that exhibits are prepared in a timely fashion. 
  • Performs work that involves communicating through visual means.  Determines the placement and appearance of visual materials that will most effectively convey the information to the court, jury, and/or witnesses.  Prepares photo boards, maps, charts, and other demonstrative exhibits required for litigation.
  • Uses Trial Director (or other trial presentation software) during trials. Prepares computerized trial presentation programs. Ensures computers and DVD/TV recording equipment is in place in courtrooms. Operates systems in the courtroom as needed. Troubleshoots all technical issues related to computerized presentation of exhibits.
  • Trains AUSAs, USAO support staff, and agency personnel on a wide range of court-related software and the use of such software prior to and during trial.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required, and an undergraduate degree is a plus.
  • Confidential data and information management experience required.
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks. 

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), Adobe, Everlaw, Eclipse, Relativity, Trial Director, and CaseMap is a plus.
  • Strong work ethic, keen organizational skills, writing skills, and attention to detail are essential.
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Wide degree of creativity and latitude.
  • Sound judgment, tact, discretion, and initiative.
  • Strong familiarity with government regulations and directives pertaining to security, confidentiality, and document retention.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

Full-time. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.

 

TRAVEL

The expected travel time is less than 25%.

 

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

Must have or be able to attain a valid state driver’s license and be insurable on the company’s automobile insurance policy. Driving, with or without accommodation, may be required when traveling for training and/or short occasional amounts of local driving.  The expected driving time is less than 25%. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a hybrid setting. Employee will work remotely and, in an office setting in Denver, CO. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities, and abilities.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, talking, hearing; occasional walking or standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting boxes weighing up to 30 pounds. Moderate to extended periods of office work with heavy periods of computer usage. Compensation and Benefits package:

  • Pay is: $30.00/hr 
  • SCA Health and Welfare Fringe: $4.97/hr paid toward employee-only medical insurance. Any remainder paid in cash in a bi-weekly paycheck.
