Job Description

Summary

The Investigator position is Grant Funded and is responsible for conducting criminal investigations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interviews complainants, witnesses, victims, suspects, and informants in person and by telephone.
  • Obtain statements.
  • Plans court presentations with prosecuting attorney's, presents evidence and information and testifies in judicial proceedings.
  • Serves court papers and subpoenas.
  • Obtains and serves search, criminal and arrest warrants.
  • Develops intelligence resources for use in investigations and participates in undercover operations.
  • Reviews investigative information, writes and files case reports and supplements and compiles case files.
  • Assists other law enforcement agencies with investigations upon requests; provides information on criminal activity to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. 
  • Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment.
  • Transports inmates and witnesses to and from court proceedings.
  • Attends training session as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience

The Investigator should possess a four (4) year degree, or at least minimum five (5) years’ experience in criminal investigation, conducting interviews and gathering evidence; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Must be Georgia POST Certification and Weapons Certification,

Necessary Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
  • Ability to meet and maintain current requirements set forth in the Georgia Mandate Law Enforcement Training Act/Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Act.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The Investigator must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts:

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, criminal and traffic laws, and department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the criminal investigation methods, practices and equipment.
  • Knowledge of criminal justice system and court procedures.
  • Skill in the use of firearms, communications equipment, and other standard and specialized equipment.
  • Skill in the use of photographic and surveillance equipment, audio and video equipment, radios, and other emergency or communication equipment.
  • Skill in interview techniques.
  • Skill in processing, analyzing, and preserving evidence.
  • Skill in written and oral communication.
