HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
This position will have primary responsibility for legal work relating to the University’s intellectual property, technology transfer and licensing operations, including supervising outside patent counsel. The individual will be responsible for reviewing and negotiating sponsored research and license agreements. In addition, the position will work with inventors and the Office of Technology Commercialization to review and assess patentable inventions, draft patent applications and supervise activities of outside counsel. Responsibility will also include copyright and trademark issues.
Minimum Requirements:
Juris Doctorate degree from an ADA accredited school, admission to or eligibility for admission to the State Bar of Georgia within 6 months of hire; patent bar membership’ at least 3 years of work experience in higher education or intellectual property law.
Preferred Hiring Qualifications\:
Strong academic background, preferable in the area of chemistry or biology, excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal/client counseling skills; effective team member; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities’ familiarity with university operations, especially research and technology transfer operations; experience in patent law and related corporate matters; and the ability to handle a significant number of matters of carrying complexity with excellent follow-through.
