GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

We are presently seeking highly motivated, organized, and professional applicants for a legal assistant position with the Tort Litigation Division. This position, under the direction and supervision of an attorney, performs a variety of legal assistant tasks for the Tort Litigation Division attorney staff.
Responsibilities of this position are those typical of a legal assistant, including providing support to assigned attorneys in administrative and appellate proceedings concerning various sub-agencies and programs of the Department of Workforce Services and assisting in the management of a subrogation process for the Wyoming Workers’ Compensation Division. Tasks will include frequent communication with the client agency and attorneys throughout Wyoming, drafting and editing legal documents and correspondence, maintaining case files and records, and assisting with the compilation of records. Other responsibilities include assistance with case development, investigation, updating clients, scheduling, and coordinating occasional travel. The legal assistant hired for this challenging position will be expected to handle a wide array of tasks for multiple attorneys with strict internal and external deadlines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.- Legal research as requested by litigation section attorneys.
- Preparing initial drafts of basic legal documents and correspondence.
- Case opening and closing.
- Drafting, revising, proofreading, and editing legal documents.
- Assisting in scheduling and preparation for depositions.
- Assisting in gathering, marking, and serving discovery responses.
- Assisting in preparing and serving discovery requests.
- Maintaining case files and calendar.
- Preparing for and assisting attorneys at trials.
- Handling logistical arrangements for travel, issuing subpoenas, contracting, and payment related to case activities.
- Consistently demonstrate analytical ability, administrative skills, ingenuity, and independent judgment.
- Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to candidates with an Associate's degree or higher in paralegal/ legal studies, paralegal certificate, or candidates that have at least three years of litigation work experience as a paralegal or legal assistant.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of legal concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures.
- Knowledge of the use of legal reference material and legal research.
- Knowledge of state and federal court policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of government and legislative processes.
- Knowledge of Wyoming Statutes and agency mission goals, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to multitask efficiently, accurately, independently, and in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
- Ability to anticipate, plan for, and meet case deadlines.
- Ability to work and communicate cooperatively with all levels of government personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:Bachelor's Degree (typically in Paralegal/Legal Studies)Experience:0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Paralegal /Legal Studies) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Legal Support SpecialistOREducation & Experience Substitution:3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Paralegal /Legal Studies) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Legal Support Specialist

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:National Association of Legal Assistants certificate as a CLA or ALS (Certified Legal Assistant) or CP (Certified Paralegal) or National Federation of Paralegal Association PACE Registered Paralegal- Necessary Special Requirements
