Job Summary: This is an exciting role in an innovative company. The ideal candidate for the position is someone who has experience with identifying patentable ideas in directed energy weapons systems, intelligent device drivers, and other technology areas of interest. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience managing an intellectual property (IP) portfolio and a company-wide program to harvest new IP.
In this role, you will report to the General Counsel and will work closely with talented engineering, software, systems, electrical, and supply chain teams. You will prepare invention disclosures and coordinate with outside counsel in the preparation of patent and trademark applications. You will also be required to assist in the preparation of provisional/non-provisional patent applications. The ideal candidate for this position is passionate about technology, intellectual property, and business. Personal initiative and the ability to lead others in an unofficial capacity are essential to success.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the company-wide IP program, which includes leading the IP Committee, coordinating regular meetings with business leaders and technical teams, ensuring filings and renewals are aligned with Company objectives, and reporting the status of the IP program to the General Counsel and Executive Leadership Team
- Harvest patentable ideas in directed energy weapons systems, intelligent drivers and control systems for RF amplifiers, guidance systems, sensors, and sensing software
- Generate text and figures that capture the patentable concepts
- Identify and document trade secrets
- Coordinate with outside counsel to timely file patent and trademark applications
- Contribute to the overall IP strategy, taking into account Epirus’s current and future technology roadmap and initiatives
- Perform patent, trademark, and trade secret-related administrative tasks
- Maintain and perform to Key Performance Indicator as outlined by the company
- BS (MS preferred) degree in Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
- J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school
- 8+ years of experience as IP counsel in a law firm or technology company
- Knowledgeable about RF systems and devices
- Good written and oral communication skills
- A self-starter capable of collaborating across all levels of the organization
- Member of the Patent Bar
- Direct experience filing patents, both within the US and globally
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance
- Collaborative; capable of working across all levels of the organization
- Organized; comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
