Lead County Attorney

Mower County is seeking a full-time Lead Assistant or Assistant County Attorney. This role is responsible for providing legal advice, opinions, and representing the County in complex court cases. Responsibilities may include interviewing clients; drafting legal documents; preparing cases for court; providing legal advice to various County staff; representing the County in court; handling appeals; negotiating client contracts; and providing legal training.

The Lead County Attorney classification is distinguished from the Assistant County Attorney classification by managing complex cases and providing direction and advice to staff members. Person(s) in this position bring a strong skillset in criminal law, civil or appellate. Lead Assistant County Attorney has demonstrated mentor/leadership qualities. Has the ability to work as back-up to cover for Senior Attorney.

Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience:

Juris Doctorate Degree with minimum of 5 years full-time experience with criminal/civil prosecuting in a County Attorney’s office. Or 5 years of full-time experience as a prosecutor in criminal/civil cases.

Required Licenses:

Must have valid license to practice law in the state of Minnesota and valid Minnesota Driver’s License. Employment is contingent on the successful completion of criminal background and reference checks.

Starting Salary:

Assistant County Attorney: $102,946.37-$110,953.33

Lead County Attorney: $122,344.33-$131,860.12

The starting salary will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
