Job Description:
The Associate Counsel – Real Estate (Retail Leasing) will play a key role in managing the legal aspects of Ivy Rehab’s nationwide real estate portfolio. This position will focus on negotiating and finalizing new (de novo and acquired) retail lease arrangements and handling all related and ancillary real estate agreements, including amendments, renewals, SNDAs, and estoppels. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in retail leasing and be comfortable independently managing transactions and advising internal stakeholders with minimal external legal support.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, review, and negotiate de novo retail leases and associated real estate documents across Ivy’s expanding clinic portfolio.
Partner with internal business teams and landlords to align lease terms with Ivy’s operational and strategic goals.
Review and negotiate various real estate-related documents, including:
Lease amendments and extensions
SNDAs (Subordination, Non-Disturbance, and Attornment Agreements)
Estoppel certificates
Assignment, consent, terminations, and other ancillary agreements
Provide legal counsel on real estate-related issues, such as dispute resolution, landlord-tenant obligations, enforcement actions, and operational concerns.
Collaborate with Real Estate, Operations, Finance, and Compliance teams to ensure that legal terms align with business needs.
Support the development and refinement of internal lease templates, negotiation playbooks, and process efficiencies.
Track and manage the status of lease negotiations and approvals through appropriate internal systems and workflows.
Qualifications and Requirements
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
6–10 years of legal experience, with a strong focus on retail leasing and commercial real estate transactions.
In-house experience is a plus but not required; however, the candidate must be confident operating autonomously on real estate matters.
Demonstrated experience managing a high volume of leasing transactions and legal documentation.
Strong negotiation skills with a practical, business-oriented approach and sound judgment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive base salary and performance-based bonus
Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), etc.)
Generous paid time off and parental leave
Remote work flexibility
Opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a mission-driven healthcare organization
Compensation for this role can range from $175,000.00 - $200,000.00 based on experience.
