The Counsel provides a full range of legal advice and services on affirmative and defensive litigation matters and strategy.

The Counsel is an attorney who represents Humana entities and employees in affirmative and defensive litigation, subpoena responses, bid protests and tax litigation.  The Counsel will manage these matters, and collaborate with internal clients and outside counsel on discovery requests and case strategy.  The Counsel will exercise independent judgment and decision-making and work under modest to minimal supervision.  Applies in-depth and broad knowledge and frequently takes full ownership of legal matters.

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school;
  • Active and licensed membership in a state bar association;
  • At least 10 years of experience in litigation; preferably in the healthcare group of a law firm or in-house corporation
  • Strong project management skills involving discovery and litigation matters
  • Ability to organize and successfully execute a number of matters simultaneously.
  • Strong skills in communicating complex legal issues to various stakeholders; and
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and in team settings
  • Experience with large scale e-discovery

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Healthcare litigation experience
  • Affirmative and antitrust litigation experience
  • Understanding of Medicare and Medicaid laws and regulations
Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$152,800 - $210,100 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
