
Summary of Position:
Civitas Resources, Inc. is multi-basin exploration and production company and is Colorado’s first carbon-neutral oil and gas producer. The Counsel II, Legal role will provide broad legal services to the Company’s Rockies and Permian business units. The position will report to Civitas’ Associate General Counsel and will be based in a Civitas office location of the candidate’s choosing in Denver (CO), the Woodlands (TX), or Midland (TX).
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Provide legal services related to oil and gas development and operations, including but not limited to land, marketing, royalty issues, joint operations, commercial matters, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide legal services regarding a variety of transactional and commercial matters, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and/or approving complex commercial contracts related to upstream and midstream oil and gas operations (e.g., purchase and sale agreements, mineral leases, surface use agreements, midstream agreements, marketing agreements, master service agreements, joint operating agreements, and confidentiality agreements).
- Regulatory experience in Colorado, New Mexico and/or Texas is a plus.
- Summarize, report, and communicate effectively to Civitas internal stakeholders
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Demonstrated expertise in analyzing and evaluating complex disputes and issues
- Ability to manage a high volume of complex and varied claims and disputes
- Excellent interpersonal and people management skills
- Success working in a team environment and partnering with internal clients, other in-house counsel, and outside counsel
- Strong business judgment, ethical compass, and a resolute commitment to compliance with laws and regulations
Education & Experience:
- J.D. from an accredited law school, active bar license such to comply with applicable jurisdiction’s in-house practice rules (Texas, New Mexico, and/or Colorado preferred).
- 5+ years of law practice at premier firm with substantial oil and gas or other related corporate experience; prior in-house legal experience preferred
Travel & Additional Requirements:
- Location: Work is performed at a CIVI location Monday through Thursday with the option of working remotely on Fridays.
- Schedule: traditional 40-hour workweek or alternative schedule of 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and 4-hour workdays on Friday, as business needs allow and with manager approval.
- Travel may be required to other Civitas offices and field locations.

Base Pay Range: $200,000 - $220,000
