- Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
The position is needed to manage the increase in juvenile mental health cases and to handle cases from the newly created Juvenile Behavioral Health Court. We have not historically needed a juvenile mental health attorney in that geographical area, because there were few enough cases that our CAP attorneys could cover them; however, over the last several months, the numbers have increased dramatically, and the court has created a separate process for those who qualify for the behavioral/mental health court, which routinely conflicts with CINC court, making it impossible for our CAP attorneys to cover most of the hearings.
40% As a licensed attorney, provides case consultations on child and adult mental health cases. Covers court hearings as needed, particularly Calcasieu Juvenile mental and behavioral health cases, and those cases in the surrounding parishes as needed.
25% Develops presentations and trainings on child mental health, for attorneys, judges, court personnel, and other stakeholders, as requested.
25% Performs other administrative functions, such as assisting with developing policy and procedures on child and adult mental health cases. Assists in recommending changes to the Louisiana Children’s Code, as needed.
10% Performs research on children’s competency, mental health laws, behavioral health, and Children’s Code issues. All other duties assigned.
