As Associate Employment Counsel, you will be responsible for assisting the Global Head of Human Resources and Senior Employment Counsel in managing a variety of employment-related matters for the Company, focusing primarily on its US-based workforce. You will be primarily involved with: (i) managing the preparation of employment-related documents, such as offer letters, separation agreements, and performance improvement plans, (ii) providing employment-related advice and guidance to internal business clients, and corporate departments; (iii) advising on employee relations and workplace conduct matters; (iv) supporting with implementing education and training initiatives; (v) assist with compliance initiatives, and (vi) developing and/or enhancing, as well as assisting with the implementation of personnel policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
Draft and review of employment offer letters, separation agreements, consulting agreements, and other employment-related agreements, and maintain templates of such documents
Provide day-to-day advice and counseling to the lines of business and corporate partners on various matters, such as employee relations issues, performance management, terminations, leave-related requests, and workplace accommodations
Collaborate with Senior Employment Counsel and external counsel on potential or actual litigation matters.
Provide guidance to the Human Resource Business Partners in conducting workplace investigations into claims of discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation, including review of interviews, fact-finding, and recommendations
Keep abreast of federal, state, and local laws and regulations and review, draft, and revise policies and procedures to ensure compliance with same
Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency or based on trends and legal changes
Provide guidance and support implementing education and training initiatives
Review third-party vendor contracts related to HR operations and recruiting
Support the Legal team with responding to subpoenas requesting employment-related documentation
Assist with HR due diligence in relation to Company acquisitions
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
JD degree from U.S. law school
Licensed to practice law in one or more states of the U.S.
Minimum of five (5) years of legal experience as a practicing attorney.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working as a full-time attorney in law firm or in-house legal department.
Experience working with corporate and other legal entities, and preferably with professional
Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment, prioritizing and juggling multiple matters
Good judgment and common sense when interacting with external and internal contacts and performing job functions
Confidence and ability to act as both a business and legal advisor, developing and maintaining good working relationships with internal business clients
Ability and desire to help define role and develop new skills, as specific responsibilities may change over time
Willingness and flexibility to work independently and as a team member with all levels of legal and business personnel
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Effective at identifying issues and evaluating risks
Ability to have a flexible work schedule

Houlihan Lokey is committed to providing its employees with an exciting career opportunity and competitive total compensation package, which may include other components such as discretionary incentive compensation. The firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible salary range for this role at the time of posting is: $150,000.00-$180,000.00 Actual salary at the time of hire may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant qualifications, skills, and experience and the location where this position may be filled.Houlihan Lokey provides a competitive benefits package.
