A rapidly growing insurance-focused organization is building a high-performance, in-house legal team and is seeking Insurance Defense Attorneys to join at a pivotal stage of growth.

This role offers the opportunity to handle a full caseload from inception through resolution, working alongside experienced leadership to deliver high-quality legal outcomes while helping shape a modern, efficient in-house defense model.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in Michigan insurance defense litigation, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is excited to be part of a team built for long-term impact.

Key Responsibilities

Litigation Management

  • Manage a caseload of insurance defense matters from intake through final resolution
  • Handle all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, and trial preparation

  • Represent clients in court appearances, hearings, mediations, and trials as needed

Case Evaluation & Strategy

  • Analyze claims and assess liability, damages, and exposure
  • Provide clear recommendations on settlement strategy versus trial
  • Collaborate with leadership on complex or high-exposure cases
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality legal work product across all matters

Collaboration & Internal Partnership

  • Work closely with claims professionals, internal legal leadership, and external partners
  • Contribute to building efficient legal workflows and best practices
  • Support the transition of work from outside counsel to the in-house team
  • Maintain strong communication across stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency

Regulatory & Legal Excellence

  • Stay current on Michigan No-Fault laws, auto negligence, and insurance regulations
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical standards
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in litigation strategy and defense approaches

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Active member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan
  • 3–8+ years of experience in insurance defense litigation
  • Strong knowledge of Michigan No-Fault and auto insurance defense
  • Proven ability to independently manage cases from start to finish
  • Experience handling depositions, motions, and court appearances
  • Trial experience is a plus, but not required

What Sets This Role Apart

  • Opportunity to join a newly built, in-house legal team at an early stage
  • Ability to own your cases end-to-end with real impact on outcomes
  • Collaborative environment with direct access to leadership and decision-makers
  • Focus on efficiency, quality, and modern legal operations (not billable-hour driven)
  • Clear path for growth and advancement as the team scales

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary (commensurate with experience)
  • Performance-based incentives
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Generous paid time off and holidays
