Job Description
This is a middle-level management position which requires the ability to manage a team of approximately 10 attorneys, as well as significant research and writing skills for work performed with the Superior Court of Pennsylvania’s Central Legal Staff Criminal Team. This individual must possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a statewide team, and be able to enforce and meet deadlines, manage case flow, and train and supervise team members. The Criminal Team Supervisor will work closely with the Chief Staff Attorneys and various judicial chambers. *The primary location for this position will be Philadelphia, Pittsburgh or Harrisburg.

Typical Duties
- Handle own caseload, which includes: reviewing appeals to determine if there are jurisdictional or procedural issues requiring attention prior to listing an appeal before a merits panel, and preparing memoranda for the Judges regarding such issues; reviewing motions and preparing summaries, memoranda, and orders for the Judges’ review; assisting in research projects requested of Central Legal Staff; and working directly with the Judges and their chambers to resolve various matters involving pending criminal appeals.
- Plan and supervise all operational aspects of the Criminal Team, ensuring even distribution of assignments, monitoring case flow, and redistributing work as necessary.
- Ensure timely completion of criminal assignments by conducting weekly review of pending assignments.
- Train/oversee training of new Team members and ensure staff development by providing ongoing training for the entire Team.
- Review/edit Team members’ work as necessary.
- Together with the Chief Staff Attorneys and the Criminal Team, create/update Team policies and procedures to ensure statewide uniformity.
- Provide guidance and feedback to Team members by answering questions regarding legal issues and Team policy/procedure, as well as preparing regular, written performance evaluations for Team members and meeting with them to address issues and set goals.
- Conduct regular Team meetings to apprise members of recent developments and foster good communication.
- Communicate regularly with Chief Staff Attorneys to inform them of legal, administrative, or personnel issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- J.D. from ABA-accredited law school.
- Admitted to and in active standing with the practice of law before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.

- Familiarity with Pennsylvania Rules of Appellate Procedure and Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure.
- Experience with criminal matters.
- Prior experience with or before Pennsylvania appellate courts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Ability to maintain a high level of integrity in the performance of job duties.
- Satisfactory criminal background check required.

Starting salary range: $78,832-$103,063, commensurate with experience.
