Whatcom County is currently recruiting for a Court Clerk in Superior Court Clerk's Office.
Court Clerks are relied upon by Judges, Commissioners, and the public as a key role in all Court proceedings. Superior Court handles a broad range of case types, including civil cases, adult felonies, all juvenile offenses, divorce, child custody, support matters, probate, guardianships, adoptions, paternity actions, mental incompetency, and matters involving abused or neglected children. This position also provides essential clerical support and customer service, including front desk responsibilities such as answering inquiries, assisting with case-related paperwork, and processing payments. Cash handling is a routine function of this role, as clerks receive and record fines, fees, and other court-related transactions. Court Clerks work both in courtrooms (including at the Jail) and in the office to accurately record and enter information from a high volume of cases. The successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced, often distracting environment and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Salary Range:
Master Collective Bargaining Agreement (MCBA): Range 108.0
Hiring rate depends on qualifications. This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (apx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).- Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalency AND three years of progressively responsible general office, secretarial and/or clerical experience.
Experience with court or legal procedures is strongly preferred.
Special Requirements:
- Required to take the oath of Deputy Clerk.
- Reviews all applicable cash handling policies.
- Must pass job-related tests.
