As a Kitsap County Court Clerk, you will play an important role in supporting court operations, while also helping members of the community navigate the judicial process with professionalism and care. Your daily work will help ensure court records are accurate, proceedings are properly documented, and customers receive clear and respectful assistance—making a real difference in how justice is delivered in Kitsap County. As the Court Clerk, you will:Accurately enter case information, court minutes, and legal documents into statewide court databases under established guidelines.
Scan, organize, and file documents into electronic court records to ensure information is complete and easy to access.
Receive and process court filings submitted in person, electronically, or by fax, ensuring proper handling and routing.
Prepare and distribute routine court documents which may include: Clerk's Orders of Dismissal, court calendars, judgments, writs, search warrants, special inquiries, bench warrants and general correspondence.
Provide customer service at the front counter by assisting the public with procedural questions, accepting filings, certifying documents and issuing writs, and processing payments for fees and fines.
Answer and route calls using a multi-line telephone system, providing accurate information or directing callers to the appropriate resource.
Support courtroom operations by attending Superior Court sessions, recording minutes, managing exhibits, and assisting with opening and closing court.
Assist with jury administration, including checking in jurors, preparing jury pools, and coordinating with various courts in Kitsap County to provide juror support.
Serve as a Passport Acceptance Agent, processing U.S. Department of State passport applications and required documentation.
Follow established policies and procedures to maintain confidentiality, accuracy, and professionalism at all times.
Professional Credentials / Licensing:Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Driver’s License prior to hire, with a satisfactory driving record.
Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check, which may include fingerprinting, due to access to confidential records and secured systems.
Two years of clerical or administrative experience, including computer data entry and customer service; experience in a legal or court setting is helpful but not required.
College, university, or business school coursework may substitute for up to six months of required experience, supporting foundational clerical and computer skills.
Comfort working with routine paperwork, filing systems, and structured procedures.
Basic to intermediate experience using Microsoft Word and Excel for document creation, data entry, and record tracking.
Willingness and ability to learn specialized court software and databases through on-the-job training.
Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with the public, co-workers, and court staff in person and by phone.
Patience and professionalism when assisting individuals who may be stressed or unfamiliar with court processes.
Previous public-facing customer service experience, including cashiering or payment processing.
Interest in public service, government work, or the legal field.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks, and maintain attention to detail.

Prior to employment, the successful candidate must:
- Submit official transcripts from an accredited college or university or business school, if education is being used to meet the minimum qualifications.

- Criminal Conviction Standards:
- The successful incumbent will or may have unsupervised access to children under 18 years of age, a vulnerable adult, or a vulnerable person, or access to a secured/confidential facility or computer system(s). As a result, Kitsap County will be conducting an extensive criminal background check by law enforcement agencies, which may include fingerprinting.
The successful incumbent must meet the driving requirements of this position and submit a copy a current driving record/abstract (from state of residency) to review for eligibility to drive for Kitsap County prior to employment. The successful incumbent must obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License prior to hire and maintain a satisfactory driving record as outlined in the Kitsap County Vehicle Use Policy. This position is categorized as:
- Category 2: Driver operates a personal vehicle as an essential function for official County business.
