ABOUT THE ORLEANS PARISH DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE (OPDA)

Under the leadership of District Attorney Jason Rogers Williams, the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office (OPDA) represents the State of Louisiana in criminal matters before courts with jurisdiction in Orleans Parish. It is the mission of OPDA to increase public safety through the ethical, consistent, and zealous enforcement of the law.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) represent the State of Louisiana in criminal matters before courts with jurisdiction in Orleans Parish. The Screening Division received information regarding arrests made by the police department and determines whether criminal charges should be filed. Within the Screening Division there are also resources specifically allocated to Domestic Violence case screening, as well as the New Orleans Data Informed Community Engagement (NODICE) initiative.

The Chief of Screening oversees the daily operations of the Screening Division and its initiatives, including the Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) and Screening Assistants assigned to the Division, in addition to other duties as needed/requested. This position is held by an attorney licensed to practice law in Louisiana, and reports to the First Assistant.

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS

  • Member of the Louisiana Bar in good standing
  • Comfort with technology, including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some weeks of over 40 hours and weekends/holidays
  • Dependability in attendance and work product
  • Effective coach and mentor
  • Public speaking ability and effective communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of Louisiana criminal law and procedure
  • Extensive criminal trial/courtroom experience
  • Experience in criminal case screening, cases management, and case processing
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high caseload and voluminous case files in a fast-paced environment while also supervising the work of others
  • Ability to foster solid and sustainable working relationships with outside agencies and partners
