The Trial Court Administrator's Office, 26th Judicial District, serving Mecklenburg County, seeks a Family Court Administrator to oversee the provision of case management services for district court family law cases using the integrated case management system and alternative dispute resolution efforts. The Family Court Division of the Trial Court Administrator's Office provides support to the judges assigned to domestic and juvenile court and stability to families in conflict with legal matters such as child custody, child support, alimony, equitable distribution, as well as abuse, neglect, dependency, and delinquency. The Family Court Administrator develops and implements procedures that efficiently and effectively execute the policies adopted by the court and coordinates the services of all parties involved with Family Court to provide the best possible service to families.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manage day-to-day operations of Family Court, including the domestic and juvenile court case management teams, Custody Mediation and Permanency Mediation programs, and the SelfServe Center for self-represented litigants.
- Provide supervision and personnel management for a team of employees, including planning, directing, and reviewing work, performance management (including goal setting and evaluations), scheduling, approving time/leave, etc.
- Develop Family Court objectives, goals, policies, local rules, and programs in partnership with the Chief District Court Judge and Trial Court Administrator.
- Educate new judges and court partners about the goals, principles, and processes of Family Court.
- Serve as a liaison between Family Court and other agencies, service providers, and any other entities involved with Family Court operations.
- Collect, analyze, and distribute data (e.g., disposition rates, program participation) to evaluate programs and improve court processes for all stakeholders; prepare reports.
- Work with the Trial Court Administrator, Chief District Court Judge, and Lead Family Court Judges to address issues related to Family Court operations.
- Apply domestic and juvenile case management best practice principles to meet Family Court time standards and increase court efficiency.
- Attend collaborative meetings with stakeholders to further the mission, goals, objectives of Family Court, both locally and statewide; report accurate and appropriate case and procedural information to court personnel, attorneys, litigants, and the public.
- Implement strategies to improve customer service.
- Assist with the case management of domestic and juvenile cases, including, but not limited to, setting deadlines, scheduling hearings and trials, tracking status of cases, coordinating case activities, and preparation of calendars.
- Provide coordination, project management, grant writing and administration, and other administrative support as needed; and other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Knowledge of: case management and calendaring rules and procedures to administer the case tracking and calendaring system; court system and organization to effectively interact with court officials, court procedures and legal terminology to communicate with court officials and law enforcement personnel; interpersonal skills to work with court personnel and the general public; organizational skills to monitor case activity and prepare court calendars; and principles of management related to the supervision of staff.
Skills in: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; and strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to: use office automation equipment to prepare legal documents and maintain the case tracking system; summarize, compile, and tabulate narrative and numerical material, analyze and record information, and balance figures; learn specific laws, rules and regulations relating to the court system and programs; be resourceful in gathering information and in answering unusual inquires and questions; compose correspondence independently following established guidelines.
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in court administration, criminal justice, public administration, business, or a related field, and four years of progressive experience in the court system to acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work described.

Management prefers candidates with a master's degree in public administration, court administration, or a human services field with demonstrated leadership and coordination skills and relevant experience with the trial courts or social service agencies and/or a law degree with at least two years of experience in family law. Must be skilled in using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and MS Teams; and using an integrated case management system. Must have strong oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal, organizational, and team development skills.
