Department: Legal Department
Position Type: Part-time, temporary (Summer Externship)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 1st shift: Approximately 8–10 hours per week
Position Summary
The Legal Extern will support the company’s Legal Department with contract intake and organization activities, including document review and data entry. This role will focus on reviewing contracts for specific required information and entering/organizing contract records within the company’s contract management system using a uniform naming convention. The extern may also assist with additional legal department projects based on interest, skills, and departmental needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Review contracts and related documents to locate and confirm required data points (e.g., parties, effective date, term/renewal, key obligations, pricing/fees where applicable, notice provisions, and other fields designated by the legal team).
- Enter contract information accurately into the contract management system and/or tracking logs.
- Scan, upload, and organize contract documents in accordance with established department processes.
- Apply and maintain a uniform naming convention for contract files to support searchability and version control.
- Flag missing information, inconsistencies, or potential issues for attorney/paralegal review; escalate questions as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of legal and business information and handle documents in accordance with company policies.
- As capacity and interest allow, assist with special projects (e.g., template updates, policy research, playbook/support materials, or process improvement tasks).
Required Qualifications
- Enrollment in legal studies or pre-law undergraduate studies
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures (including naming conventions and data entry standards).
- Ability to review documents carefully and extract information consistently.
- Professional judgment and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort with learning new systems.
- High School Diploma required
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with contract review, legal operations, or records management.
- Familiarity with contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems or document management tools.
- Experience working with standardized metadata fields and quality control checks.
- Interest in the practice of law, commercial contracting, or legal operations.
