Job Description

The Energy Commission seeks a Senior Legal Analyst (SLA) in the Chief Counsel’s Office (CCO). Under the general supervision of the Staff Services Manager I, the SLA regularly and independently performs the full range of varied and most complex paralegal duties of an analytical and sensitive nature, including those requiring a high level of responsibility-duties requiring specialized legal knowledge, analysis, coordination with the Docket Unit in the Chief Counsel's Office and attorneys, and also provides consultative services not only to the Docket Unit and attorneys, but to persons in other offices and divisions in the agency and the public. The incumbent must understand and possess knowledge of a variety of proceedings, both administrative and judicial that the Energy Commission conducts, monitors, or appears in, and must be familiar with the multiple areas of law and practice in which the Office of Chief Counsel advises and serves the Commission, and must understand the nature, purpose, and importance of proper, formal agency recordkeeping practices and be able to evaluate and establish protocols that ensure timely and accurate file management. The incumbent will also serve as a resource for attorneys by researching such matters as court rules, rules of practice and procedure for administrative proceedings, past Commission cases and decisions, and statutory requirements for rulemaking files. In addition, the incumbent may be tasked to serve as a lead when working with other legal support staff, and coordinates the efforts of other government agencies on projects involving the Docket Unit and the Office of Chief Counsel.

Demonstrate ability to act independently, to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and to assume increased responsibility, knowledge of Relativity and Statutory Law and Regulations.

Working Conditions

This position provides hybrid telework opportunities, with employees required to work in-person at least two days per week. Beginning July 1, 2025, all employees may be required to work in-person at least four days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25.
