What's this Job All About? 
The Chief Deputy District Attorney is a leadership role within the Colusa County District Attorney's Office, focused on overseeing the office's daily operations, including legal, investigative, and administrative functions. This position is responsible for managing a diverse team, implementing office policies, and ensuring effective coordination with other county departments and external agencies. The Chief Deputy also plays an essential part in prosecuting criminal cases, conducting legal research, preparing court documents, and presenting cases in court. Additionally, the role involves budget management, staff training, and fostering professional relationships to support the office’s mission to uphold justice and public safety.

Supervision & Examples of Duties

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives general direction from the District Attorney.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Exercises direct supervision over professional, technical, and clerical staff.

Qualifications

Experience and Training Guidelines - Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: 
Juris Doctor degree from a law school.

Experience: 
Minimum four (4) years of experience trying a full range of criminal cases in a County District Attorney’s Office, or equivalent experience. Handled multiple serious/violent felonies to completion without supervision.

Special Requirements: 
Membership in the State Bar of California. 


A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Supplemental Information

The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance (Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase.) The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
