POSITION TITLE: First Assistant District Attorney, District 20
LOCATION: Ardmore, OK
STATUS: Full Time, Exempt
CLOSING: Open until filled, time is of the essence
SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:
Located in the heart of Lake Country, District 20 is the home to Lake Murray, Lake Texoma, Lake of the Arbuckles and the Chickasaw National Recreational Center, Turner Falls, as well as Lake Crest Hotel & Casino at Lake Murray, Winstar Casino, Artesian Hotel & Casino, and soon the Hard Rock Café at Lake Texoma. District 20 includes the beautiful lake counties of Carter, Love, Johnston, Marshall and Murray with the main office location in Carter County. A successful candidate must have experience as an experienced trial attorney with preference given to prior prosecutorial experience handling a wide array of cases including criminal, civil and county representation.
The 1st Assistant is responsible for managing employment issues, training new attorneys, assisting in civil county representations, prosecuting criminal cases, handling a criminal docket including jury and non-jury trials, prosecuting civil forfeitures, conducting law enforcement trainings, assisting with budgeting, human resources, and fiscal management of a 5-county district. The 1st ADA assists the DA with case management as well as office management of a 25+ employee office as well as a child support office, and any other duties as requested by the District Attorney. The 1st ADA serves at the pleasure of the District Attorney Melissa Handke.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Juris Doctorate from accredited law school. Admitted to and good standing with Oklahoma Bar Association.
• Experienced trial attorney. Prosecutorial experience preferrable.
• Team player looking to collaborate, learn and grow as a prosecutor.
• Persons with an interest in civil and/or Native American law are especially sought, Understanding of McGirt and criminal prosecutions a plus
• Applicants must possess strong writing and research skills, and the ability to effectively communicate and work with law enforcement, elected officials, attorneys, and other agencies.
• Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background check and have no criminal history.
