The Law Clerk provides legal research, assists in the preparation of legal documents, and makes court appearances as directed by the County Attorney and/or designee.
- Essential Functions
This job description indicates the normal type and level of work expected of the incumbent. Incumbent may be asked to perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
- Draft criminal complaints, orders, and other legal documents;
- Prepare memoranda to law enforcement with follow-up requests;
- Make court and administrative hearing appearances while under the supervision of an attorney according to the Minnesota Rules of Court;
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation;
- Research issues and draft memoranda/legal briefs;
- Assist with court calendaring, preparation of various reports, and various support work;
- Review police reports for County Attorney;
- Maintain large file organization;
- Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and a certificate or diploma from a Legal Secretary, Legal Office Specialist, Legal Administrative Assistant, or Legal Assistant Program, and two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must successfully complete a criminal history background check.
- Selection Process
- Candidates will be selected based on a review of training and experience. Top candidates will be selected to participate in oral interviews.
