Description

The Law Clerk provides legal research, assists in the preparation of legal documents, and makes court appearances as directed by the County Attorney and/or designee.

Essential Functions

This job description indicates the normal type and level of work expected of the incumbent. Incumbent may be asked to perform other duties as apparent or assigned.

  1. Draft criminal complaints, orders, and other legal documents;
  2. Prepare memoranda to law enforcement with follow-up requests;
  3. Make court and administrative hearing appearances while under the supervision of an attorney according to the Minnesota Rules of Court;
  4. Assist attorneys with trial preparation;
  5. Research issues and draft memoranda/legal briefs;
  6. Assist with court calendaring, preparation of various reports, and various support work;
  7. Review police reports for County Attorney;
  8. Maintain large file organization;

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a certificate or diploma from a Legal Secretary, Legal Office Specialist, Legal Administrative Assistant, or Legal Assistant Program, and two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Must successfully complete a criminal history background check.

Selection Process

Candidates will be selected based on a review of training and experience. Top candidates will be selected to participate in oral interviews.

Salary
  • $21/hour
