Overview:


 

Part-time position; 20 hours per week.

Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance is required by hospital policy. Must pass a motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and must maintain qualification of insurance guidelines. Job Description Summary:


 

Provides brief legal advice and advocacy to families and staff and serves as a startegic advisor to Nationwide Children’s Medical Legal Partnership (NCH MLP). Serves as a consultant and advocate for families and staff consistent with the mission, values, and strategic objectives of the organization.


 

Job Description:


 

Essential Functions:

  • Interviews and counsels clients and their families, advocates on their behalf, represents clients in administatratve hearings and in educational settings, and assists clients with relevant referrals and agency applications.
  • Consults with staff regarding legal issues related to clients and families. Acts as liaison between the clients and referral agencies.
  • Develops relationships with relevant community resources in order to support clients and assist in navigating community systems.
  • Maintains appropriate records and participates in data collection relevant to legal tasks and duties. Creates and maintains policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Ensures that all clients are appropriately screened for and referred to the Legal Program.
  • Participates in committees and meetings, attends required training, and maintains current knowledge of relevant procedures. Provides legal trainings to staff and partners on a regular basis.
  • Provides advice and strategic guidance to the Nationwide Children’s Medical Legal Partnership and serves on Advisory Steering Committee.


Education Requirement:

Jurist Doctorate, required.


Licensure Requirement:

Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio, required.

  • Ability to collaborate across a multidisciplinary system.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to manage confidential information in a complex hospital environment.


Experience:

  • Ten years of experience as an attorney, required.
  • Three years of experience in the area of domestic violence and family law, preferred.
