The OGC Counsel – Conflicts is an integral part of Latham’s Office of the General Counsel team and will be responsible for resolving professional ethics conflicts, other ethics and compliance issues relating to lateral clearances, new business matters, and outside counsel guidelines across the firm’s offices, while reviewing situation-specific conflicts checks as needed. This role will be located in our any of our west coast offices, or our New York, Boston, or Washington, D.C. offices. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Applying knowledge of legal ethics and professional responsibility rules relating to lateral attorney, new matter conflicts of interest, as well as relevant Latham procedures, policies, and practices to advise Ethics Committee Members, other attorneys, and key stakeholders
- Reviewing outside counsel guidelines, non-standard engagement letters, and Request for Proposals received from clients, and working with partners to prepare responses to clients that align with firm policies
- Advising attorneys and others in regards to engagement letters, conflicts waivers, ethics walls, and firm policies
- Performing legal research and analyses on professional responsibility issues as requested by the Deputy General Counsel, Assistant General Counsel – Conflicts and Ethics, or Ethics Committee Members
- Preparing and delivering trainings for attorneys and staff on topics relevant to conflicts, ethics, and professional responsibility
- Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

- Possess well-developed, professional interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact and communicate effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm
- Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Display excellent attention to detail
And have:
- A JD or equivalent
- Admissions to the relevant state bar and active status
