The Service Oklahoma (SOK) mission is to ease the stress in navigating government services by providing a best-in-class customer experience. We are Oklahomans helping Oklahomans by providing driver license and motor vehicle services on behalf of the state.This position has an annual rate of $70,000 - $85,000, commensurate with experience.
The Service Oklahoma offers a generous benefits package, including a benefits allowance to off-set the costs of medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance plans. The Service Oklahoma will match up to 7% towards an employee’s Defined Contribution retirement plan. Our employees receive 11 paid holidays, 15 days of paid annual leave, which increases with every 5 years of service, and 15 days of paid sick leave. Additionally, employees will receive longevity payments based on their years of service with the State of Oklahoma.
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant General Counsel will assist the Legal Division in redefining the way Oklahomans access and engage with government services. The Assistant General Counsel reports to the General Counsel (GC) and provides legal advice to the agency and represents Service Oklahoma in both administrative and judicial proceedings. The Assistant General Counsel will support the General Counsel in providing strategic legal guidance and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Applicants must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently. The lawyer will support SOK leadership, as needed.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

- Serves as first- and second-chair in administrative hearings
- Analyzes, reviews, and determines impact of proposed legislation
- Analyzes, researches, and reviews subpoenas and other requests under the Open Records Act and other privacy laws
- Attends meetings as a representative of the legal division as assigned by the General Counsel
- Serves as second- and first-chair in state and federal court proceedings involving the agency, including drafting of pleadings and discovery, motions hearings, depositions, and trial
- Advises on questions of law or administrative policy involved in the operation of the agency and its contacts with industry, private or professional associations, state federal, or local government, and the public
- Provides legal advice and counsel regarding all aspects of legal issues facing the agency
- Prepares the preparation of legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, motions, petitions, and other legal documents
- Conducts legal research and ensures compliance with federal and state laws
- Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The minimum qualifications for this position are:
- Graduation from an accredited law school; PLUS Licensed to practice law in the State of Oklahoma; PLUS Minimum two (2) years legal experience as a licensed attorney
Preference may be given to candidates who:
- Experience in administrative law, contracts, litigation, and/or other areas of law involved in the operations of a state government agency
- Governmental and administrative law practice experience is strongly preferred
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- The schedule for this position may vary and require flexibility, including some early or late shifts, weekends, and occasional overtime, based on the needs of the agency.
- This position may require occasional travel. The employee must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel. State vehicles may be available, but reliable transportation may be required for local travel.
- This position works in a comfortable office setting with a computer for a large percentage of the workday.
