Job Description
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is the legal team for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), providing quality representation and legal advice on a wide range of highly visible national issues. OGC supports the development and implementation of the Department's programs by providing the highest quality legal services to the Secretary of HHS and the organization's various agencies and divisions.
Duties The incumbent serves as the Deputy Associate General Counsel for Public Health Division (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Branch) and head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Branch. The incumbent serves as the primary source of legal advice and services for both the CDC and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR). This position is physically located in Atlanta, Georgia, and reports to the Associate General Counsel for Public Health, located in Rockville, Maryland. CDC is an agency of the Public Health Service (PHS) charged with providing leadership and direction to programs and activities designed to reduce unnecessary human morbidity and mortality and improve the health of the people of the United States by thorough public health surveillance, inventive laboratory applications, and public health interventions utilizing a wide range of practical prevention programs. Finally, the CDC is deeply involved in the latest initiatives and trends for public health crises and the threat of bioterrorism, including the regulation of the possession, use, and transfer of select biological agents and toxins. Salary- $150,160 - $225,700/year
