Description

Under the general direction of the Sr Human Resources Director, the Paralegal is responsible for proactive and responsive approaches to legal claims, (employee and member), litigation, and business contracts. This position will assist in litigation cases providing legal expertise to maximize matters to remain in-house while partnering with legal firms and conducting research.  The Paralegal is responsible for business contract drafts, reviews, and revisions ensuring compliancy. The Paralegal is responsible for executing various projects and activities to ensure success as defined by scope, budget, and timeline. This position has comprehensive knowledge of employment and business law and can relate to individuals at all levels within the organization.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Employee Relations: 

  • Process legal claims related to employees.   

  • Process the documentation for leave of absence and ADA programs. 

  • Research and provide guidance on employment law and regulations. 

  • Assist in drafting and updating employee handbooks, policies, and procedures. 

  1. Litigation: 

  • Assist in preparing and organizing case files for litigation, including discovery, pleadings, position statements, and contractual obligations.  

  • Coordinate with external counsel and manage case-related communications. 

  1. Member Relations: 

  • Once they become claims, support the human resources and operations teams in managing member-related issues, including incidents, equipment, and contractual obligations  

  • Report and liaise claims assigned to general liability vendor. Partner with Planet Fitness Headquarters regarding member agreements and compliance including clarifications and franchise requirements. 

  • Once receive legal notice or demand, partner with operations and if applicable, human resources, for members incidents, complaints and disputes with legal and organizational policies. 

  1. Business Contracts:  

  • Partnering with operations to draft, review, and revise business contracts, including vendor agreements, service contracts, and partnership agreements. 

  • Partnering with real estate regarding landlord requirements and drafting letters and correspondences. 

  • Ensure that all contracts comply with applicable laws and organizational policies. 

  • Partnering with all Corporate departments to maintain a database of contracts and monitor renewal dates and compliance obligations. 

  • Provide support in negotiating terms and conditions with external parties. 

 5. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications  

  • Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field required, bachelor’s degree preferred. Paralegal certification a plus. 

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a paralegal, with a focus on employee relations, litigation, member incidents and legal actions, and business contracts. Must have experience in employee relations and litigation with aptitude to learn the member relations and business contracts. 

  • Competencies include:  

  • Strong knowledge of employment law, litigation processes, and contract management. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Proficiency in legal research and document drafting. 

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion, and to exercise discretion and good judgment. 

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. 

  • Demonstrated relationship management and team oriented. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. 

  • Deliver on commitments. 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to learn company specific programs. 

  • Satisfactory background check. 

Supervisory Qualification 

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a partner and mentor for other positions in the department. 

 

Work Location & Environment 

Our corporate office is in Rosemont, Illinois. Your work location will be listed as 6400 Shafer Court Ste 250, Rosemont, IL 60018. This is a hybrid role requiring: two (2) days per week, Tuesday & Thursday in the office and more as business needs require.
