POSITION SUMMARY

The Labor & Employment Paralegal is responsible for supporting multiple attorneys in the Firm and is expected to have a high degree of responsibility for project management and implementation.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Prepare, review, edit, proofread and file a variety of technical and legal documents
  • Receive incoming mail, review mail for instructions, distribute mail to correct parties, prepare outgoing mail
  • Electronic Case Filing (ECF) (federal and state courts)
  • Prepare court filings for state and federal court cases
  • Prepare for depositions by creating exhibit binders and background searches
  • Review daily court dockets for potential new cases and clients
  • Organize and maintain case files, attorney notebooks, databases, spreadsheets and other materials
  • Coordinate and communicate with clients and opposing counsel
  • Maintain calendars and schedules for attorneys
  • Team approach to workload with attorneys and other paralegals
  • Prepare and execute client invoices
  • Track client collections and billing
  • Assist attorneys in preparation for trial by arranging travel accommodations, filing motions, preparing trial exhibits, coordinating experts and witnesses
  • Administratively support Firm business development
  • Drafting and editing pleadings; includes reviewing and answering complaints, counterclaims and third-party complaints, motions to dismiss or strike jurisdictional motions and research for pleadings
  • Prepare power points for client trainings
  • Prepare for Labor and Employment seminars and events throughout the year
  • Coordinate and track project activities

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Associate’s degree in paralegal or legal studies or other related discipline is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of legal experience required, and 4+ years in legal experience preferred. 

Computer Skills: Skilled with MS Office Suite and other office products. 

Certificates & Licenses: Paralegal certification from ABA-approves program is preferred.

Other Requirements: Excellent problem-solving skills and willingness to conduct research to learn new tasks. Strong organizational skills to maintain work lists, organize documents, and monitor deadlines and filings. Ability to ask questions, clarify issues, and provide project updates as needed. Excellent written and oral communication skills (comprehension & expression). Strong command of the English language, including excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation, form and style. Detail-oriented and ability to create, compose, proof and edit correspondence. Possess sense of initiative and responsibility to manage case load and maintain confidentiality of records and information. Ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressured environment and maintain case/trial deadlines. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment is in a professional office setting. The majority of activity this role performs will be sedentary work.
