Role Description
The Corporate Counsel, Privacy will be responsible for advising the company on compliance with global privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, HIPAA and state-specific laws. This role will play a critical role in providing legal guidance on privacy and data protection matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, supporting our organization in the development and implementation of privacy policies and practices, and providing training to colleagues worldwide to ensure the protection of sensitive information. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Data, Record Management and Privacy Compliance, this role will work closely with Legal and Compliance, Human Resources, and Zoetis Tech and Digital.
Responsibilities
• Ensuring the organization adheres to privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA). Collaborate with IT, other compliance functions, and other departments to promote a culture of privacy within the organization.
• Creating and reviewing privacy policies and procedures. Develop and deliver training programs on privacy laws and best practices.
• Identifying and mitigating privacy risks related to data handling and processing.
• Educating employees about privacy practices and regulations.
• Managing data breaches and privacy incidents, including notification requirements.
• Evaluating contracts with third parties to ensure compliance with privacy standards.
• Stay up-to-date on emerging privacy laws and trends to provide informed legal advice.
Education and Experience
• Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent from an accredited law school.
• Active bar membership in relevant jurisdictions.
• Minimum 8 years of experience privacy law.
• Strong understanding of global privacy frameworks.
• Advanced knowledge of EU and US statutes, regulations including ttrong understanding of HIPAA, GDPR, and state privacy regulations.
Technical Skill Requirements
• Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
• Experience with data breach response and incident management.
• Familiarity with emerging technologies and their privacy implications.
• Previous in-house counsel experience, especially in healthcare, is a plus.
Physical Position Requirements
• Hybrid working environment, with approximately 50% of time (2-3 work days per week) required on-site in Parsippany, NJ headquarters.
• Ability to travel domestically or internationally 10-20% of the time.
• Frequent work with global teams located in multiple time zones.
