Job Description

For more than 45 years, Bet Tzedek Legal Services has provided high-quality, free legal services to Los Angeles’ most vulnerable residents. This includes assisting vulnerable community members impacted by the January 2025 wildfires. Bet Tzedek’s is looking for a candidate who is professional, driven, a strong and courteous communicator, and passionate about social justice issues to support our various wildfire relief efforts on a time-limited bases. Reporting to the Directing Attorney of Pro Bono, this individual will work with the Eviction Defense, Preventing & Ending Homelessness Program (PEHP), Homeowner Protection, and Small Business teams to develop and manage clinic opportunities, develop and manage outreach opportunities, and promote and manage the involvement of volunteers in each. 

 

·  Help plan and coordinate key disaster-relief clinics and workshops, including Housing Clinics, FEMA Appeals Clinics, Insurance Clinics, and Landlord-Tenant clinics on behalf of fire-affected low-income tenants, homeowners and small business owners. The coordinator will work closely with Bet Tzedek's Pro Bono Team, Homeowner Protection Team, Eviction Defense, PHEP, and Small Business Development Program, to help conduct intake screenings and build referral pipeline to clinics. 

·  Help plan and coordinate Know Your Rights Workshops in the issue areas above. The coordinator will help recruit and oversee law firm participation and the administration of this new program.  

·   Develop training modules for pro bono volunteers looking to join in these clinics and Know Your Rights efforts. While no previous substantive experience is required, the coordinator will be quired to gain foundational knowledge around FEMA matters, insurance, evictions, habitability/ harassment.  

·  Work with Pro Bono Director on pro bono volunteer recruitment for wildfire relief centers and pro bono opportunities, where necessary. 

·  Participate in meetings with Bet Tzedek's community partners around disaster relief efforts. Stay updated on key community initiatives and regularly brief the Pro Bono Team and agency staff.

 ·  Familiarity with the areas of law noted above preferred but not required.

·   Proficiency with MS Office (including Word; Power Point; Excel) and Adobe PDF (or equivalent software) (required);

·   Proficiency with NetDocuments or other web-based document management system (preferred).

·   Proficiency with case management systems (Kemp’s PRIME, JusticeServer, LegalServer) (preferred);

·   Spanish proficiency and ability to provide written and oral Spanish and English translation (preferred);

·   At least three years in professional office work environment (strongly preferred);
