Job Responsibilities:
- Provide expert underwriting guidance and support to internal departments and external customers on complex real estate transactions and title insurance matters. Must be able to navigate and advise on issues across various legal jurisdictions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with both new and existing customers. Contribute to business development initiatives by attending client meetings, industry networking events, and supporting strategic growth efforts.
- Develop and present continuing education and training materials through live seminars and webinars on relevant industry topics.
- Support internal audit processes as needed to ensure regulatory and procedural compliance.
- Lead and manage a geographically dispersed team of underwriters across multiple states. Responsibilities include:
- Responding to urgent requests from Chief Underwriting Counsel and other senior executives.
- Supporting regional underwriters in evaluating complex risk scenarios and assisting in decision-making processes.
- Ensuring consistent and effective underwriting support coverage across the region.
- Recruiting, onboarding, and mentoring new underwriting talent.
- Organizing and leading regional meetings to communicate company policies, share best practices, and align team objectives.
- Managing all HR-related functions for the regional team, including training coordination, performance evaluations, goal setting, disciplinary actions, and administrative oversight such as calendar and expense management.
Qualifications:
- A Juris Doctorate Degree from an ABA approved law school.
- A licensed attorney in good standing with a state bar association
- 10 years of title insurance experience or real estate experience.
- 3 years of experience managing a team
- Ability to discuss and respond in writing, proposed requests for coverage to determine potential risks; to suggest and provide adequate language in title commitments, policies and endorsements that will protect the Company's interests while assisting the Company’s agents.
- Knowledge of title insurance rates and rules for all states of responsibility.
- The ability to prepare and deliver relevant live, web-based or recorded educational presentations to or for the Company’s customers.
- This is a remote position where working from home is a common practice.
- Occasional travel is required.
